College Experience

Apart from the required curriculum, there were some classes I took to better my understanding of Communications and what it has to offer. I am fluently skilled in all of these aspects, and look forward to utilizing them in my career.

Comm 411- Persuasion

This class taught me to...

This class was instructed by Dr. Joseph Burns. The purpose of this class is to educate Communication majors about the nature of persuasion, persuasion theory, and how it's used in social situations. The class was structured through lessons featuring two exams and four topical debates. 

- Think critically on social and political issues.

- Use persuasion on a psychological level.

​

- Develop independence in our values and beliefs.

Comm 495- Opinion Writing

This class taught me to...

This class was instructed by Mrs. Megan Mosher. The purpose of this class was to write editorials and critical reviews involving today's world. We were required to write 4 papers total, two editorials and two reviews, and the class had two exams.

- Write editorials and reviews with both educated research and opinionated statements.

-Communicate with others in an face-to-face interview format.

​

- Conduct proper research in a library database.

Comm 466- Special Events Planning

This class taught me to...

This class was instructed by Dr. Laura Dimattia. The purpose of this class was to prepare Communication students for formal events and business ventures in today's society. Everyone enrolled in the course was required to attend and volunteer at the Richard Murphy Hospice Gala. Students were also required to procure silent auction items for the F.E Lions Champagne Bingo.

- Use contract language and construct SOWs along with other legally-binding documents.

 

-  Conducted proper media strategies both in the group and during the Gala.

Comm 410- Intercultural Communication

This class taught me to...

This class was instructed by Mrs. Shawndee Fluker. The purpose of this course was to educate students about the history and issues of intercultural communication across the globe. Students were required to write three papers, and engage in discussion posts.

- Communicate with intercultural contexts in mind.

- Explore the diversity and uniqueness of international cultures.

- Appreciate my own culture through a passionate mindset.

Comm 272- Intro to Strategic Communication

This class taught me to...

This class was instructed by Mr. Hunter Waddell. I've incorporated many skills from this class in social media content creation, and I've also learned many marketing strategies. I created a strategic plan for Batter, a small business in Hammond. 

-Engage in content creation for many different aspects of businesses and marketing.

-Plan professionally in an analytical setting.

​

-Create flyers and social media posts for the general public.
